Mission Statement

To improve the health and healthcare of Americans by promoting and performing health services research, targeting population-based outcomes of: primary care and specialty care, health workforce trends and solutions, and the rational use of healthcare spending in public and private systems.

To explore cost-effectiveness of healthcare interventions and resource allocation, in order to provide important policy-relevant information at the local, state, and national levels.

To disseminate research results in peer-reviewed journals, directly to policy-makers, and to the general public in order to increase overall understanding of the trade-offs and choices involved with healthcare system reform.

To quickly and flexibly assist local, state and national agencies with program assessment, especially regarding cost, quality, and access.

To establish a diverse funding base that represents the public interest.

To nurture developing researchers and to create a diverse network of researchers (including experts in public health, economics, and other social science and technical fields) available for relevant project work.

To create a fun work environment that is minimally encumbered by bureaucracy and supportive of non-traditional creative exploration, collaboration, and communication.
